Biography

Monika moved from Toronto to Halifax in 2005. This provided her an opportunity to immerse herself in Nova Scotia’s vibrant arts community and explore her passion for photography, painting and design.

She has taken workshops in photography and painting in Toronto and Halifax, Canada and in Bucerias, Mexico.  Among her teachers, Callum Cameron, Christopher Webb and Heather Sayeau have provided guidance and inspiration.

Her art is held in private collections throughout North America. She also exhibits regularly at ViewPoint Gallery, Art Sales and Rentals at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Advantage Gallery. Her work is also available in fine furniture stores and décor galleries in Canada and the USA.

Artist Statement

Art feeds my souI. Creating matters. Having an audience to enjoy and appreciate the results of these creations is like passing on the energy and joy I experienced while making it all happen!  I am drawn to colour, then form; to light and shadow. To me, art of any kind comes from life, from experimentation with new ways of seeing the world and interpreting those visions in a way that others can experience. With my camera, I record my version of that which already exists, then transform that into an image that I hope will, in turn, inspire the viewer to discover something mystical and mysterious, an image that stirs the imagination.
